I took the Sprint out tonight for some fun and had great fun at first, but then.......

I went to pull away from a roundabout (with a lot of beanz). Initially it went but then lost all drive in all gears. There was no clatter, no bang and the engine ran perfectly still but no go.

Anyway got the car home about 10pm, checked the gears are actually engaging which they appear to be, checked the gear linkage which works, clutch seems to engage / disengage correctly and the engine still starts so its not a broken clutch plate. Its still hard to push round a tight corner so the Salisbury appears to be OK.

Its a brand new SwiftShift box thats only done about 60 or 70 miles.

Have a guess whats wrong and Ill tell you what it is when the engines out. Ive disconnected everything already, so by about midday tomorrow it should be on the engine stand with the gearbox off.

Im stumped really. Sounds like something isnt engaging right if there where no bangs or clatters.

Jim got it in one! Well done

Stripped the box off the block and the pinion and nut were sitting in the bottom of the casing.
Nothing broken and itll be running again later today

I seriously doubt it!

Thats a releif, I knew it wasn't going to be the gearkit, these are awesome bits of kit. I've seen with my own eyes the condition of these kits after a season of miglia racing, top jobs!

They are superb Jim, Swifty showed me a season old box without a mark on it.
Have you got / driven one Jim? the gearchange is just amazing.
To give an idea how quick the change is, if you use the clutch, it is in the next gear before the clutch pedal hits the floor, so with no need to use the clutch its almost a seamless drive, it sounds like sequential

Yes it is a dogbox, I like it on the road, but I drive it very hard. Poodling along its difficult to change down the gears smoothly so might not be so nice with a low FD. But Ive only done 60-70 miles with it, it might get easier as I get more used to it

Yes I've got one fitted to my mini, IMO I think the gear change is better than my old metro challenge synco box. One of the best things I've got for the mini.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i know what you mean paul about trying to just cruise along with the dog box. you just have to be forcefull with it.

its not designed for people to be nice to it *happy*

i've got a JKD dog box, and i agree, 1-2 & 3-4 without the clutch sound just like its sequential.
