Hi. ive had some forged accrelites on order with avonbar since the beggining of the year now and i still aint got them. Im at the stage now where i need pistons. i plan on running 15psi of boost with a cr of about 8.2:1 so i ordered a set of 14cc forged accrelites. do you guys think a cast item would be ok instead?
its not an every day car so they're going to take a bit of abuse.

the only options i think i have is either grow old waiting for these accralites or get a more available cast piston.

any advice ??

thanks

OMEGA cast pistons are superb and have a top record for durability for turbo application

available in 11cc dish

If the piston is of sound construction, AFR's are sensible, and you dont detonate the crap out of them....then they will not break.

I ran standard turbo pistons at 20psi for 2-3 years, day in day out and the only problems I had, were self inflicted ( I melted a couple )

Also used cast pistons in various engines...again, if good design, there wont be a problem.
Most Subaru engines used cast pistons too.

Most notable thing to avoid, is any with split skirts, or a big slot for oil control.
The skirt must be sound, with oil holes behind the scraper ring. No slots.

right about cast pistons,
but if you have the budget for forged ,and just have trouble with waiting, why not buy omegas bowl forged?

thanks for the replies,

As most know I managed to drop the lands off of 2 sets of Mega's total cost over 400quid... Maybe there was a bad batch because I know they have a great reputation as do the Omegas but do a search and see if you can find a post where Forged pistons have dropped lands....I never found one, you will find Plenty of forged though.

As far as I am concerened ! Shoulda got the Accralites in the first place..

well after some mishaps and problems im still using my mega piston set, but for higher boost than 15 psi then the omega's would be a better bet if you can get some, or even powermax.

the only grip i have with the mega range is the ring gap size is to large, eg oil control is between 40 and 50 thou were the comp ring are about 14-16 thou oil control shouldnt be much bigger than 12 thou.

so when i lift of then oil getts sucked up passed the oil control rings causing a nice puff of blue smoke when i re apply the go lever.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Thats exactly what I have in now, beauty is they drop the compression to around 8.5-1 without any head mods...

However, I waited almost 6 months.. A real bugger but unfortunately Ian is at the mercy of his supplier and I'm gessing is backordered all the time until they get their fingers out. If you can afford them I would wait--- he'll get them out soon..
