Hi

What sort of gap should I be expecting when I release one side of the big end?

I am getting between 5 and 6 thou.

Thanks
James

You should buy some plastigage.

I've used plastiguage, everything was spot on.

What I mean, is what sort of gap should I be expecting between the cap and rod mating faces?

Sorry if there was mis understanding there.

Why would you use that crude cap bending method if you've used plastigage and found everything spot on??

I was thinking in order to make sure the shell was sat tight in the rod, more then anything.

V,

As far as I understand bearing crush is to do with the fit of the bearing in the rod, not the clearance between the bearings and the crank, which is what you measure with plastigauge. In theory if you have little or no crush you run the risk of bearing spinning in the rod, although in reality I've never heard of bearings spinning.

If course, you measure the roundness and size of rods and main journals BEFORE you fit the bearings.
