Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Im buying a new TV for my Attic Room, all it will be doing is running an Xbox 360 and TV from time to time.

Thinking about an LG, i already have an LCD 32" HD LG, but i want 1080P and must be 42" or above.

Anyone got any good suggestions? Will be spending around 700-900 squid.

Cheers

Mike

I've got the samsung 40" 1080p. a bit smaller than what you are looking for but happy with it. Also got a sony Bravia 23" 763res? and pretty good too.

Installed a 50" panasonic Viera in a clients office recently - got it from Costco - if i recall correctly it was about £900 but included a 5 year warranty - this unit was well recommended by a couple of the sound and vision 'experts' locally

Ive had 2 Lgs up to now and compared the quality of the picture with friends and relatives and the LG won hands down.

Anyone on here running there 360 with HDMI cables and getting 1080P successfully? My mates Tv is 1080p and it doesnt work, and my brothers is the same.

Best advice...

Go look at the ones you are considering in a showroom (Currys, Comet etc.) AND then ask for the remote and set all the settings back to "factory" and look again.

Then walk a few degrees away from a straight-on view (ie, look from the side) and then look again.

The weakness of LCDs (especially the big ones) is they are backlit (because that's how LCDs work, photo transistor in front of a white light source) whereas Plasmas actually emit light from the phosphors at the front of the screen.

So, whereas Plasmas will all look pretty much the same at any angle and user setting (assuming they are the same resolution/pixel count), LCDs vary immensely depending on the way they are constructed.

That is why you should look and make your own mind up.

Once you are up to 42", I would go plasma, never LCD. The technical pixel count may be lower than an LCD of similar size, but the scaler inside sorts all that out and, in everythng I've looked at, plasma wins every time.

42" plasma isn't too far of your price range.

If you went plasma, the best one by far is Pioneer. They are at least two years ahead of the opposition (and mine is now 4 years old !!!!)

I have got a 1080P 37" LG LCD tv, got it around last christmas, as wanted to run the PS3 through it. And i cannot fault it. The picture quality when watching Blue Ray movies or playing games, is amazing.... Especially Gran Turismo 5.

Curious, go on, tell us which one, I used to work in distribution.

Would mention about our TV, but Alex has already beaten me to it!

Agree with "retired". Panasonic KURO plasma TVs have without doubt the best quality picture on the market, by far!! Just Google it and read all the reviews.

Well we don't quite agree....

We agree plasmas are the best (better than LCD by far) but the debate between Pioneer and Panasonic for Plasma has been going on, well...... as long as I can remember since I chose Pioneer :):):)

i got a samsung 1080p 42 lcd 6 months ago for 700 you can get em for 5, believe it or not SONY actually use samsungs pannels ! if you want cheap but good quality go panasonic, but i am yet to fault samsungs quality matey !! plus they look bling as fook ! you can get em in white now rather than just the high gloss black

also go to fenwicks to buy it they do it 12 months interest free (and its paid off at the end of that term) plus 5 years full warranty !!!) no wehere else does all of this, you get the usual 12 months free but a further two years at 26 % steer clear of currys and comet / dixons etc etc

also PLASMA tellys are shite for gaming they cannot cope with fast moving pictures and they blur, you also get haze and outlines, not to mention what you would folk out for good refresh rates on a plasma you could have got a better quality LCD

not to mention plamsa tellys dont last too long at all, my father in law spent 10k on a bang and olufsen plamsa telly and darlek speaker system lovely bit of kit, but already the screen is fucking up at the corners and edges, trust me steer clear of plasma old hat now matey *wink*

should also mention my telly with the ps3 and blu ray disc looks friggin fantastic !!! LCD tellys along with plasma are shite if you sit up close, however i have sat at all sort of angles from the telly and the pcture quality does not suffer, i noticed that with plasma it does bang and olfsens telly turns to where ever the remote is sitting, rather than come up with better plasma pannel they put a shite gadget on to wow you psml !

Try comparing them under the same lighting conditions, from all angles, and with both at their factory settings (which they never are in the showroom) and you'll see why...... not 8-)8-)8-)

OK, I'm biased as I have plasma, but I've yet to see an LCD that can equal it at 42" and above.

LCD is coming on fast though, in a few months I may change my view. 4 years ago you simply couldn't buy a large LCD.
