Right, i'm in a bit of a pickle here, I hope one of you can be helpful.

I have my car sitting in front of my house on the street, it is untaxed (tax exempt but lapsed by two months)

I know I was chancing sorning it while it is on the street, but since there is no engine in it I thought it would be obviously undriveable.
This morning I awoke to having a police £60 fine on it, fair enough I thought, my own fault.

What I want to know is, is there any way to get round this in the future as surely the next step will be clamping then crushing or something as equally as nasty.

How about puting it on axle stands with the wheels off? then technically it isn't on the road, lol.

As I live in Edinburgh I cannot afford to hire a garage and I have no other place to keep it.

Thanks in advance guys.

Tony

Well yeah, we have a small front garden with a big tree in the middle, but since we are in the middle of selling the house I can't go and chop it down and stick the mini there.

I phoned the DVLA and basically said I am making a false declaration, which I suppose I am.

Does anyone know any dodgy mot guys to post me a certificate lol

I do see where the DVLA are coming from but you would think being tax exempt it wouldn't matter much to them.

Tony

EDIT, can't tax it as it has no MOT, i'm in the middle of a small resto so will be next month before it's motable

No way around it, you need to tax it, and to tax it, it has to be MOT'd and insured.

Or find somewhere off the road to keep it.

well you can tow a car on a dolly.

meaning that two wheels are off the ground, thats legal then.

Im pretty sure that would be ok....but obviously there is a risk of the trailer being stolen.

Does seem ridiculous, that if you even had a bare shell sitting on the road...they still class it as a car.

Road tax/extortion etc is a fucking joke....except the least funny one Ive ever heard !!!!

Although be lucky you just got a fine....over here the arseholes get a Hihab and take the car away in most cases !!!

Think that will be next!
I had a visit from the council just then, basically they say they have had complaints about it, I told her the situation and she seemed on my side, but her job says I have two weeks to move it or tax it, but since they all appeared today, i'm watching out for the dvla van which will no doubt be lurking somewhere *frown*

i would not risk anything (not any more).

Mine was outside my house on the pavement with no engine and not taxed because of no mot, still insured, declared off the road. The front subframe was only just on.

They took the car without notice. Cost £280 to get it out of compound, £80 fine from the dvla and £80 to get it towed from the compound.

*frown*

Whatever you do I'd definitely get it moved somehow in the next day or two. Now they are all aware that it is SORN'd incorrectly I'd be confident it won't be long before they come along to take it away. Get it moved pronto is my advice!

No, I have looked into this, to tax a car regardless of tax exemption you need a valid MOT certificate and a valid insurance certificate.

It sucks!

Can you stick false plates on it from a taxed car ? lol

When they lift it, they have to lift via the wheels, so they dont damage the car, and use a HiHab to do so.

I wonder if the car was on stands, and had no wheels for lifting purposes....what would they do ??

Time to phone a friend or neighbour to help, there must be someone you know.

Totally agree with Tom here, try and get it moved ASAP, surely you must know someone reasonably local with a drive, phone everyone you know, do you have a car park at work? Do the brakes work? if so tow it there, if not start phoning break down companies most of them will help you move the car for a small fee.
