Somewhere around Swindon

Just a quicky

Mate of mine bought a merc from a second hand dealer and part X'd his pajero in for it, 3 days after owning the merc the air con pump has pailed with a cost of £650 to fix, the merc was also supposed to be serviced and some stone chips fixed both have not been done

Now IIRC dealers by law have to give a 3 month warrentee or siomething ??????

anyone in the trade or give some advice

I'm not sure what the law is, I think the car has to be of merchantable quality when sold, but with an unforseeable failure I'm not sure if the garage is liable for anything or not. Best bet I'd say is to go see the dealer and have a relaxed calm chat about it.

There is a law in your friend's favour, fit for purpose or something. Alex knows more because we were talking about it, not that long ago.

under the consumer rights act there's a law that says a product has to be fit for purpose? not sure if that applys to air con pumps though?

it should be covred under a waranty of some sorts, they should have ideally gone back to the same garage they got it from to get the problem fixed (im asuming from what you said they went somwhere else)

go to the citizens advice and/or trading standards for a chat. i had a nightmare trying to get back my moms money from a dealers. In the end one letter from trading standards and a bit of 'fetch me your fucking manager' sorted it out.

legally you can return the vehicle within 12 months of ownership. if you return the vehicle withinthe first month you are entitled to 12/12 of the sale price returned. in the second month 11/12 and so on and so on.

my boss used to sell alot of vehichles and was talking about this the other day. i will ask him about it tomorrow but i am 90% sure that was what he was saying.
