Is a badly coked engine less likely to start than one that's nice and clean? or does it make bugger all difference to starting?

Unless the valve seats are totally knackered or the carbon is stuck on the valve seats,holding them open,I cant see it makes any difference,all other things being equal,of course.

if the fueling and timining is right NONE Rob

i have run some shed engines many..... many years ago, burning a gallon of oil in under 300 miles *surprised*
all these started fine! if the above was set right.
