Its not that bad mate for the price. 256 aint much ram for the price considering you can buy a new toshiba with gig ram for £330. Strangely enough IBM's seem to keep their price, the X models are nice and small but the cd drive is external which is a pain if you want to burn cds when out and about

Check that it has got an RS232 port (serial), if you are going to use it for megajolt.

most of the new laptops don't seem to have them on anymore and you can have problems with the USB to RS232 converters.

usb covertors can be a right royal pain in the ring hole.

Im 99% sure it wont have one. Then again neither has any laptop made in the past 3 years or so!
Developers of systems like the megajolt need to catch up, COM ports (rs232) have been extinct for near 5 year now on most systems

sad but true,

some of the more expensive ones seem to have 232 ports, but normally your looking at about 1200 quid up.

without being too techy it is a shame, despite being slow as hell my todays standards (0.1MBs) it was hardware controlled, meaning very little ca n go wrong, unlike usb which uses software.

All the big cnc machines, lathes etc mainly still come with com ports. More reliable

So far Im not impressed, and it hasnt even been posted !!!
Wont go into it here tho

But get a lappy with a PCMCIA slot, and throw a serial adaptor in there. They work great.

A lot of the DELLs have serial ports, my work one definitely does but the security clamp down on it is so tight that I use it as little more than a glorified paper weight.

I got a Dell Easylite as my dedicated MJ laptop.

It's a P2 300mhz (with MMX!) with 90mb of ram! lol.

But it's got a serial port and I can get my greasy hands all over it without worry as it only cost me £100 6 years ago.

Perfect

In the 13's at last!.. Just
