well im going to keep you busy.

ive got a replacement box to go on the turbo engine, but its from a "standard" car.. will it fit on? i seem to remember someone saying something about a bigger bearing.. is that in the box or is it in the transfer housing?

what difference can i expect between the std turbo fd and the 3.44 thats in the new box?

Approximatly 7% shorter gearing, and a little increase in acceleration through the gears.
You should get hold of a new 1st motion nose bearing - the turbo only one. The difference is the std one is under a tenner, but the turbo one is around ?30... Oh, and one extra roller!

You could try removing it carefully off your old box, but i'd replace it...

Oh, make sure you also change the outer race (in the transfer case) or your efforts and money is wasted if you only change the inner race.

He means the bearing that sits on the input shaft of the gear box, and goes into the side casing (flywheel housing) is different.

So you need to swap it or better still replace it.
Part no. ADU 6033 on mini spares website.

It is ?45 on there, they were around ?12 a few months ago, so I bought 2! I think they made a mistake :)

Other than that the turbo box has a 3.2:1 diff which is unique to the turbo.

So in effect your saying the boxes can be just swapped straight over but keep the turbo transfer casing with a new nose bearing *happy*

I got told a 2.7 diff would be good on a turbo for a road car as they have the torque to pull the car at low revs but means for long distance use you can keep it off boost easier as you dont have to rev the car so hard.

Most people want to go the other way so finding one to swap wouldnt be a problem i would of thought. *happy*

Yes, that's correct.

Only you can decide what the correct diff for you.
If you do a lot of motorway/long distance driving then go for a taller diff.
Did you think that you are too high up the rev range most of the time?

If not then don't kill the performance keep the same diff. You won't get a much higher top end due to aerodynamics of a mini being similar to a brick anyway, just better crusing.

Not too sure which im after really. Be nice to have both! a 5th gear would be perfect!

Still on the standard diff at the mo, its not too bad really as there's no motorways near me for a good 20miles!

See how i get on when the engine goes back in for the second time in a month or two. *happy*
