Hi everyone

im currently collecting the parts to turbo my minivan.

i have read the other how to posts but was wondering if there are any parts that you would recommend changing when doing the conversion?

or any parts on my list that would be unsuitable?

here is the list of parts that i have:

metro turbo engine complete
T2 turbo
twin point subframe with front mounted rad
facet fuel pump
fuel regulator
fiat punto intercooler

parts i still need:

mirage motorsport manifold
8+10mm fuel pipes
intercooler piping

Cheers Tony

Tony,
I'd stay away from a 'metro turbo engine' if i were you...

Find a suitable (post '86) 1275 and get it re-built to 'turbo' spec, and the gearbox re-built to suit aswell...

right, fuel pump needs to be of the "injection" variety. a roller vane pump from any injection car is up for the job. The metro one being ideal as it is matched to the metro turbo regulator that you require.

Wouldnt bother with the subby. just use the normal one. These mount the engine further forward and space is tighter there than at the back.

You'll have fun fitting both rad and intercooler in the front as it is, dizzy/alternator gets in the way.

If your rebuilding the lump then any later 1275 (86 onwards) is identical to the turbo bar the pistons and cam and has probably had an easier life. Nose bearing in the transfer casing is also different.

Intercooler i cant comment on, just needs to fit the space you have really to start. there are good and bad designs but im not that well up on them. sure TD will comment *smiley*

Most 'metro turbo's are well shagged, having been driven hard, and (as they got cheaper) badly seviced...

This is why everyone complains about the 'reliability' factor!

I'd stick with a side rad. The mini spares 2 core rad I can recommend, loads of minis have cooling problems cos they have old rads blocked with shite.

Plus the intercooler will benifit from being front mounted.

I'm using a side exit dizzy cap to gain a little more space up front.

another important thing to remember is dont expect all secondhand parts to work, smokey turbos, gunged up carbs, cruncy gearboxs etc dont forget some probably all parts will be 13 to 18 years old been thrashed poorly serviced all its life etc.
so make sure its all well checked out rebuild your carb etc

other parts might be needed like air filter and airfilter pipe
and dont forget to save money for your rolling road tune

good luck *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
