Socket set in the background looks nice :) On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Just an estimation based on the pic's, but I would guess a hone and new rings, but the real way is to put a new ring in the bore and measure the gap (sorry don't know the measurement) http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c248/spe...er1/mini007.jpg

That's of no use. Go out and have a proper measure. Then measure pistons. If the skirt clearnace is too big = new pistons and rebore time.

use your nail to feel the gap between the top cylinder (were the rings never go)and just under, if there is any wear you'll feel it easily( make sure to have cleaned coke before and do it all around the bore , if it just need a hone you'll feel no or very light gap under your nail.

Usually there is most wear at BDC ringland. This is where you have to measure, not at the top. However, this gives you an idea. If there's even a hint of ridge there, it's usually rebore time.

i don’t have anyting accurate enough to measure the skirt clearance.. All you need are some feeler gauges. Pop a piston out, remove the rings and place it in the bore upside down, the measure the gap between the piston and the bore with the feeler gauges. Remember to measure the skirt at 90 degrees to the grudgen pin as this is where it is widest. Also rotate the piston and move it up and down measuring the gap as you go to check if the cylinder is round and the side are parallel. Edited by Rob H on 20th Jul, 2008.
