hole saws??? where can i get one that will cut through my front subby???

i've ball'sd mine up, only used one once before & melted that, i've shaggged out the bit that holds the holesaw too (not the drill)

i admit it is a holesaw from a b&q £23 drill bit set so the ones i have/had are/were shit!

i dont want to spend alot, just something good enough to do the front subby will be enough

Screwfix - theirs are HSS (high speed steel) and so long as you go slow and lubricate them well, they cut steel fine.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

What cutting speed where you using? I've drilled through 1/4" steel plate with my B&Q hole saws not problem, but that was taking it nice & slow in the drill press.

bit of an expert at this, lol.

the B&Q ones are good if you go slow, but the best ones i used where from a local tool shop, make sure the are bi metalic ones, i spent loads on these and you get what you pay for!

YES, very slow when cutting steel, because of their diameter. A 1" hole saw would need to run at 1/8 of the rpm of a 1/8" drill to have the same cutting speed.

Also plenty of lubricant (plain engine oil is fine but fancy cutting fluids are better) it's as much to keep it cool as well as lubricated.

Aldi got a special on at the moment with hole saws.

Maybe not the best but for the price you cant go wrong especialy if yu only use them once in a while. Just use some cutting fluid when cutting steel and they will last a good deal longer *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Best bet is to buy a decent powerful drill, that can operate at low speeds.....

As said, its all about teh tip velocity of the cutting tip.
The larger diameter, the slower the speed.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

i dont want to go any bigger on the holesaws than 1/1/4" maybe 1.5" absolute maximum!
