Hello everyone mot on thurs! need to check mixture b4 just to get it there though . I bought a colour tune kit but Im not that confident with it . is there another way of initially setting up the carb ie screw the mixture screw right in then 3 turns back something like that ? just worried as its a new engine and im driving bout 10 miles to centre. what should i be aiming for regards to % 3? at idle stu gurr profiled needle on old 1275 bini kit how far out would this needle be now its a 1293 with dished pistons no comp plate etc, he said it should be ok for running in but `ok` doesnt give me much confidence . |

yeah, take it very gentle and listen for pinking. Mixture at idle shouldn't do any damage i wouldn't have thought...

grey, the tickover mixture screw is down the back of the carb on the drivers side pointing toward the driver from down its hole.

TBH ive never looked at that, always just gone by fiddling with the screw. On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:

Aha thanks for the advice!! I did a search a week or two ago and decided to use DOT4 brake fluid in the dashpot! Shall I swap it out for some normal engine oil? All i've got is 20w 50 Sorry for the hijack by the way:$ |

on the HIF "out" is lean with the engine idling wind it out til it starts to become uneven, then wind it back a turn. That works for me, it would not be far off if you set the idle that way, Use 20w50 oil (Genuine SU dashpot oil is 20weight) the rest is down to the shape of the needle and nowt you can do there by twiddlin the adjusters!
