From the man himself

Hi Paul

Thank you for your concerns, we will be talking about this at one of our
future might meeting. I think that nitrous should only be used in race
classes.
Road legal should mean road legal in all aspects of the car.

I will let you know the out come in the next few weeks.

I seriously doubt it!

wwell ther eyou go then, its allowed seing asss it not illegal for use on the british highway,

it seems dave is what he appears , that being an enthusiastic car club owner , with little or no knowlwdge of the ins and outs of what is and is not permited n our roads,

to dissalow its use due to being not road leagl is incorrect, , but banning its use because he says so if perfectly acceptable

I have just replied to Dave to point out (for the sake of the guys that do want it allowed) that there is no legislation to say that nitrous is not road legal.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

It needs simply clarifying like this (or whatever he wants it to be).

Nitrous oxide is allowed in Class G, H, I & J only.

Nitrous oxide is not allowed in Class A, B, C, D, E, F or G

Oh, and tell him to say nitrous oxide, not NOS or Nitro's as this is open to interpretation.

I think he should stick to show and shine

Dont get me wrong, the bloke may well be the nicest chap you could meet, but he isnt really a PR representative.

I get the feeling that the way BMC runs itself is to try and keep hold of the roots of the Mini hence the West Midlands accent?

Wonder if they could persuade Dave Vizard to commentate, LOL, now that would be worth making the trip for!

Nice one Paul as you have his email, can you email him again and ask for a 700kg min weight road going class. Should make things fair, while we are on the subject.

Why should it have to have any of those things (tax, MOT, insurance) is beyond me. It meets all the criteria to be road legal. Nowhere in any of the (scant) rules and regs does it mention that PROOF of this is required.

As it happens I'm named on a trade policy so I'm insured to drive anything I want, with the permission of the owner, and as the DON is tax exempt, a tax disc is simply a case of walking into a post office with a few bits of paper I have, and asking nicely for it.

Well there you go then, but I must admit that it was a little petty that it came to producing documents, that just shows how little the scrutineers know about their job in hand, but then thats not a new thing anyway. I was spannering for a rally car, it was only club rallying, but the scrutineers decided that the car had some issues, yet if they had read the blue book, there would have been no problem. Some of them are up their own arse!

:)

you still need mot to get an tax disc tho, you just don't get to pay for it.

I completely agree with this Tom.
Problem is The British Mini Showdown was put on for fun, it is us that have made it into a serious event and that is why the current rules arent adequate or clear enough

Only a 20 min job to swap the rear springs out, you don't even need a jack, simple!

I think for next year I am going to mount the video camera inside the car and drive it to Avon Park.

you'll need the motorway equivalent of this, as I don't think you'll make it between service stations!
