I know SG knows his stuff but i do find a 116mph terminal speed hard to believe, not saying in any way it was'nt what the timing equipment said but wonder weather it was an official quater mile.

116 mph was not the 1/4 trap speed but top speed - flat out run at bruntingthorpe proving ground at 8000 plus 3.9 diff hoping it didn't let go !i only managed 15.1 1/4 at the same test. Paul Whiffin was there too (106 mph ) my best was13.901 was 99mph at york |

Asuming ur running 165/70/10's and 1:1 drops and a 1:1 4th gear and a 2.95:1 FD you will be doing 19.3mph per 1000RPM, so 6500RPM will be 125.45mph

Sorry to be a spam poster, but I was always of the understanding that turbos suit longer gears where as n/asp engines need close ratio?

trouble with having long gears is that you go off boost changing between them if your not careful...

I run 10's wheels with a 3.44 FD, I have a longer first gear than most (2.31:1) Some people have told me that I would have problems getting off the line, as I would need to slip the clutch lots. If anyone saw me at avonpark this year they could tell you that this is not the case. My next gearbox will have an even longer 1st. If I can change my final drive I would, but as I'm running an LSD, there is noone who currently makes a CWP for LSD's smaller than 3.44.

Often hanging onto lets say 3rd gear a little longer will bring the revs nicely into the powerband or boost as we call it for when you hit 4th, also a bootfull of the loud pedal between gear changes hepls to keep cranks rotating and turbos spinning.
