Going to take engine out again tomorrow, you guest it, the gearbox doesn't feel right, thrid gear is now starting to crunch when you put it in. Last time this started to get funny the main shaft broke so i'm on the case before to much more damage.

It could meana dog box is getting ever nearer!

Sprocket, yes but i couldn't put up with all the high rev on the motorways, we live in a place where every thing is just miles away.

Or get some massive tyres like we have for the DON. It can do nearly 90mph in 2nd gear on those.

yes mate not been a good week for us suffolk boys, only scrot sorry t3tone is still running at the mo.

im still putting money on either shgged 1st motion bearing or yet again bent main shaft.

i think those mega horsepower and torque is just to much for the sc boxes.

just hope the dog box will cope if not than its going to be a bloody expensive time to find out.

just spoke to mat and the man bearing is goosed so not to bad but still wondering why it should as we havent had any probs in this area for ages

Phew!

Have seen the price of those bearings recently, ~£50s at MS!

maybe that is why, if you havent had any problems for a while they have slowly come back. alot of power going throgh that box :)

Well after 4 hours I'd got the engine out and the gearbox stripped down. I surprised even my self there! As hoggy said the main bearing looked a little worn, but the more weird thing, and this is why 3rd gear was crunching, the 3rd gear baulk ring had worn so badly that when it's hard up against the gear, you could still spin the gear, the ring had no bite, so in affect the ring wasn't doing any thing. it seems funny to use both why suddenly we have one that has just badly worn.

So Tim can you drive it ok o the road with NO clonks as it goes in gear?

And what main bearings do the dog boxes use??
I really need to drive a mini with one in to see for myself.

Yes they do clonk into gear, but thats all part of the fun, and people look at you funny with strange noises coming from an old mini.

My quaife box uses the same barings as a normal box.

Cheers Tim, yes that's why i've not rushed out and got one. (apart from the cost issue!!) I use the car a hell of a lot if the weathers good, and clonking into gear isn't fun for me when you just want a nice smooth drive home from a show or outing.

That's interesting you say that vegard it's brand new gear but you never no. Yes Sam, that's what they say, Do this mean that there are different ones from the quaife box, as i though swiftys were made by quaife.

the gearset is quaifes yet the dogs are swiftys design.
