Straight cut drop gears clashing together??....

They will seem ok on start up but once the oil thins they often seem to make a chatter.

Quite normal.

if the engine revs freely with clutch depressed sounds like drop gear chatter.
as jon says drop gears rattle like hell.

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Fitting up the drops to factory tolerences is a bit of an art. It is all in the hayes/whatever manual and a bit of a polaver!

A drop 0f 200rpm is fairly livable IMO,if it was 6/800 i would worry and seriously lookover the bottom end.

My engine last year seized solid when them clutch was depressed, a freaky fault!

Remember this engine is still tight of rebuild and will take many hours of use to loosen up.

I am sure it is fine.

you shouldnt get any rpm drop by depressing the clutch...

your crank end float is wrong if you do!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

even with a very heavy diapraghm? would of thought you'd get a bit as they'll load the thrusts a lot.

Yeah I thought that with such as a grey or double grey diag. then the force on the thrusts is enough to make them tight regarless of whether you have a correct endfloat or knackered one?
My old clubby estate had an art to getting it started, one bit of which was not to put your foot on the clutch as it wouldn;t turn on the starter if you did......

crank endfloat and drop gears were set to the lower factory tolerances...im probaly wrong but my opinion is that the flywheel bolt has come loose somehow, which would explain the symptoms...im going to start it shortly and listen from cold...im also going to record the sound if anyone wants to hear it and diagnose if they can...stick your email addy down and i'll send the clip
