Hello everyone, afraid I dont have a mini, but have a 1098 MG Midget with a metro turbo on it.

Before I put the turbo on my A-series used to create about 30 psi hot idle and 45 ish when running

Ive taken the oil for the turbo from the oil pressure line via a t-piece.

I now have 10psi idle hot and just short of 20 when driving. How do I get the pressure back up (Or is this ok as long as the flow is good?)

sounds to me like you need a better oil pump. But check your oil pressure release valve is not full of rubish,

Morning!

The oil pressure valve is on an inline set up on the left hand side of the block towards the rear as you look into the engine bay. It is held in by a inch so so sized nut that screws into the block. Take it out in including the spring and cap and clean it up, you might want to experiment with packing the spring out to make it stronger to increase the oil pressure.

As Jim said you may need a larger oil pump but try this method first.

Have fun!

Ok ive packed out the spring and ive had an increase of about 10psi so now idle 20 and driving 30 psi. Suggestions please, guessing now looking at a bigger oil pump? I no I cannot fit the mg metro turbo's one on. I have a standard sump and im guessing the midgets one is the same as the mini's so any suggestions on what pump im looking for?

Thanks
Neil

Why do you say that you are unable to fit the metro pump?
The Metro one fits in the same place as the mini one and I seem to remember that the mini one is similar to the midget inline engined one. So logically the metro turbo pump should fit, although might require a bit of engine dismantling to fit it.
I thought that the pumps on the inline engines were the same as the transverse ones, it was just the oil pick up arrangement that was different?

A friend who did the conversion on his couldnt fit the metro turbo pump in, I think its our sump being to tight. But he is out of the country for a few months so cannot pick his brain

I am suprised that the oil pump is anywhere near the sump as usually on A series engines it is mounted on the end of the block, but I don't know enough about the inline engines to say for definate.
If it is just interfering with the sump, I would be tempted to get a good fabricator to make you a small 'bulge' to weld in your smp to give the necessary clearance for the correct turbo pump. I seem to recall the turbo pumps have something like 30% extra capacity over the std ones? I am sure someone will be able to confirm this or correct me..

the oil pump is located at the same place on all A series.

it should be at the back of the block just above the flywheel

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

may be the drive is different.

Anyway a good quality oil pump is all that is required. These high flow pumps are often over specced. And some are just poorly made!

Does anyone else run theres using a standard oil pump? Trying to narrow down why my oil pressure is so low.

And I do mean low, got home today and it was indicating about 5 psi
