I've had enough trying to find somewhere that sells individual wheel nuts for Slot Mags. To the point that I'm toying over making my own as they're pretty simple things really. Now what I want to know is can I get away with making them from bog standard mild steel? or do I need to use something more fancy? As a side note I allready have a dozen proper nuts, so I was only going to be running one home made nut on each wheel.

Minispares sell individual wheel nuts. Are the slot mag nuts special in any way?

They're a weird nut with a curved edge iirc.
Mine didn't have the curve, and kept getting lose.

Why not have a taper seat machined into your wheels and then buy 16 taper seat wheel nuts?

That's definitely an option that would work well, and I'm sure I could think of a northern gent would do a first class job, but that would cost money where as I've got some 3/4" mild steel hex bar knocking around and I've got a lathe so it would cost nothing to make my own nuts. Just not sure if bog standard mild steel is up to the job.

Make them in mild steel and then temper them?

Heat them till they glow red hot then drop them into a bucket of of water, or thin oil

????

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Can you not buy the taper nuts and then modify them yourself to suit the wheel?
