Just got my clutch fixed and car tuned. Is going, or so I thought..........when engaging fourth gear as soon as the clutch is let back out it pops back out of gear. Basically it wont stay in fourth gear.

Gearbox looked in real good nick before the engine was built, anybody got any ideas as to what might be wrong. It aint been driving since the re-build.

gearbox...

Looking at the complete box will tell you nothing other than there are no teeth missing!!! You can not ascess the clearences, end floats or inspect the condidition of the surfacing hardening of the teeth.

Many people (myself included) can build you a gear box if you don't fancy DIY.

Where exactly is this guys? What would I check for?

Spoke to the guy who I got the box and he swears blindly it was ok when he took it out, hes a old mate and I doubt he would be pulling a fly 1.

Cheers in advance,

PC.

it is behind one of the driveshaft output flanges on the gear selector shaft side. The Metro Turbo haynes manual says it can be a cause of jumping out of gear (also lists selector forks, bellcrank lever, selector shafts or interlock spool, weak or broken syncro hub springs, worn gears and/or syncro sleeves)

NARROWS IT DOWN!!

another check is that the selector remote has enough travel to engage the gear fully. Unlikely as there is no adjustment but if it is worn???
