Anyone got an A+ crankshaft going?

The surfaces on mine for thrust bearings are knackered and I really need a new one for the machine shop working on my engine....

Cheers

Chris

You may already know this, but you can get oversized thrust washers to reclaim the crank you have, available in 3 thou and 10 thou oversize I believe.

yep. that would usually sort the issue - but i've been told it's the surfaces that those washers will rest on that's overly worn/not up to scratch. hmmm

Do you mean the block side of the thrust...or the crank side?

One side sits to the crank, the other to the block. If the crank side is scored then it can be ground in much the same way as the journals to reclaim it. The only reason to need a new crank is if it is scored/worn to beyond 30 thou, if those are the biggest oversize as Carl says (and he is probably right).

ahh. ok. cheers for that. i think they must be beyond reclamation then and crankside.

i think i've managed to sort a replacement.

so much for a reasonably priced engine rebuild!!!

I've had thrust faces ground loads in the past. Excellent results!

30 thou arent available anymore (atleast what I was told by many when I needed some).
Oselli can make some though to any thickness you want

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Say you wanted a 7 thou oversize, am I right in thinking theres no reason why you couldn't machine a 10 thou down?
Just intrigued.

If you could accurately machine the steel backing side down, no reason why not, but the bearing face I would say no, the bearing material will be a defined thickness.

Where I used to work we had a surface grinder with a magnetic table which was stong enough (magnetically) to have grabbed a thrust washer with the steel backing upwards so I could have re-sized one by surface grinding the backing material.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

tyou cannot mACHINE A 0.010 DOWN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT EXIST,opps caps, there is no reason why any decend machine shop cannot grind down the face t accept 0.030 thrusts,
iv'e acctually just turned down the face once, worked a treat, as long as you get a good finish.
