Hi all just after a little info on turbo re-build kits and actually doing the job.

I took turbotims apart today due to excessive play in the shaft and would just like too know which bits are the worst for wear and what you get in the kit.

Cheers Jase

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

see pics of the kits in the for sale section under TM shop *smiley*

im currently pricing up new shafts and wheels too but that may be a few weeks off yet.

I rebuilt mine and seems ok. boosts well and sounds fine. still a shade smokey but havent let things settle as the whole engine has been in bits, plus it has some 2 stroke in the tank! lol!

seems to be getting much better now though.

A guy I know who builds race engines always runs them up on two stroke when he first starts a fresh built engine.

It stinks and smokes a lot but he likes knowing that there is plenty of oily mix to lubricate the rings just while the oil first gets warm and round the engine.....

Good theory i guess. That wasnt the reason i did though *happy*

only thing is it may foul the plugs but i like to start up on and older set after a build as you often burn a bit of oil that you've used for assembly straight off. then change them after a short while running for a new set.

Like that 2 stroke idea, think i might use that when i build the new engine *smiley*

Aye, like I say this guy is well respected with the engines he builds so I guess that he would not do it if it didn't benefit somehow.
Like you say it might just foul a plug or two but worth doing just whilst you knock a new camshaft in at 2500 for 15 minutes.....I hate doing that!!!
Another thing he does is to use the cheapest engine oil he can find to run it in for the first 1/2hr running or so, then dump it and change it for progressively better stuff. Apparently at the moment his favourite is "Happy Shopper Multigrade"....good for bedding rings in apparently...perhaps not great news for a turbo though!!!!!
