Near Paris - France

Hi all,

Finally getting to it and thrown my "soon to be turbo-ed" 998 in the least rusty shell I have.

I am very likely to switch often from turbo to N/A as it is not legal to modify cars in France so it will be a circuit trick.

The donor car might go to the 16V Mini scene as I am in touch with a friend who has one (more) project ...

Parts are all collected too :
SPi tank (less fuel metering device, I'll use a regular tank one)
Hif 44 (N/A, will get the turbo conversion, off the 1275)
Metro turbo inlet and plenum
Fuel pressure regulator (Renault GT Turbo one)
12G295 head (just got some manganese bronze guide to rebuilt it)
Exhaust (I was willing to reform an LCB but after having a close look at it, an elbow on the standart cast iron manifold will be preferred)
Turbo (diesel one off a 1.5)

The car is a 1992 low comp 1275, my first attempt to build up some power out of it turned to parts lost in my parents garage, hence the 998 ...

Anyway, it is fitted with a brake assist, "electronic" ignition and what I suppose is a canister in the front left wing.

What can be done on this standart electronic ignition to get it compliant with turboed engine ignition timing requirements ?

The metro turbo inlet has some sort of valve over the vacuum pickup, what is that for ?
Can I remove it ?
(for some time I will use the car N/A with the Metro turbo inlet fitted as part of a "stage 1" kit, still with the standart air filter box and it will foul it in all probabilities)

Can the canister pipe be used for return of the excess fuel ?
(easy question, I bet on a "yes")

If I was to switch often from turbo to N/A, can the fuel pressure regulator be left in place (with the pressure from the plenum replaced by atmospheric pressure) ?

I fear on my plenum there is something missing, the plate that restricts the carb mouth, is it inbuild in the plenum ?

998 seems A+ (off a 1987 car) as it has the last rockers.

What annoys me is that it has no breathing over the clutch à la 1275 and it was where I planned to put my oil return (clutch mounted turbo), can it be drilled in place ?

I only had one to hand so far but my 12G295 head seems reworked has it has very shallow valve seat on the inlet and the ports are much nicer than my 12G940, can anyone tell ?

Do I write to much ?

Rusty by nature
