Stupid question but why do Turbo carbs have the throttle linkage on the other side to NA carbs? I know that people have moved the linkage over in the past (TD & Jimster spring to mind) so it's possible to have the linkage on either side but trying to workout why they were made with the linkage on the other side in the first place.

EDIT: Experience has taught me that BL tending to do things for a reason (not always the best reason mind) and therefore before I modify my carb to move the throttle linkage to the same side at the choke I'd like to have some idea as to what problems I'm going to make for myself.

Damn good question. Perhaps its something stupid like stockists knew which was n/a or turbo just by visual inspection. Can't think of any other reason.

Ha, I was thinking of asking this question. Mine fouls my IC piping so I might move it to the NA side.

Well I've move the throttle over to the other side & tweaked the choke (I think it was Tom who came up with the choke idea years ago) it looks like I'm going to need a half inch carb spacer to stop the throttle linkage hitting the carb & a Nic plenum to stop the IC pipes fouling on the throttle linkage. Still it lets me run the TPS which I need for the ECU.

Had a bit of a play with this earlier today as I need a TPS to play with and it turns the reason BL moved the linkage to the other side was to stop it fouling on the manifold. It would also appear that the throttle quadrant in the turbo carb is a different shape to the one on the NA carb, the NA one seems to be more linear where as the turbo one provides more clearance. I'm now on the look out for a gurt big spacer, badger.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

careful as clearance is tight on the bulkhead at the best of times...

rob, all the turbo inlets ive seen have had a groove ground in the manifold anyway?

All the ones I have seen have had them also, I'll take the dermal to it later and make a second groove on the other side, it's help but I'll still need a fair old spacer.

Tell me about it, I think I'm going to have to tilt the engine a bit more than I would have liked.

Why is nothing simple?
