In the garage......again!!

I have a fair amount of travel in the pedal and pumping it won't bring it up, tried and tried at bleeding just in case there is a little air left but always the same. the brakes work ok, just that i'm not used to a long pedal travel myself, is there a way to adjust it?. btw, i'm running a servo, it seems to happen when i keep my foot on the brake and start the engine, i can feel the pedal drop as the servo kicks in, it stays that way until i switch off.

sounds about right for a servo.

pretty rock hard, wont pump up either, just drops when the engine runs, feels a little scary with that much travel.

any chance of a vacuum leak to the servo then? it all sounds like its working ok but is giving abit more travel than normal??

i would say check for any vacuum leaks and make sure that the one way valve is fitted and working.

after that. when the engine is off does the pedal creep? similarly with the engine on? from the way you say it doesnt pump up i would say it probably wont.

failing all of that what have you recently changed on the set-up? if you have could you now have the wrong size rear cylinders?

yep thats what about right for a servo *wink*

pump up the peddle then fire her up whilst holding foot on peddle, if the peddle drops right down it does 2 things:
1.)shows the servo is working
2.)scares the crap out of you*surprised*

lol, thats exactly what it does, although what james says has got me thinking, i have minisport alloy 4 pot calipers on front and i think standard rear cylinders, i recall reading somewhere they have to be changed for smaller ones???

This happened to me as well mate.

I sorted mine as follows ......

There should be a threaded rod going into the servo from the pedal box linkage. The locknut on this rod keeps everything tight on the linkage when its tight.

Yours could have slackened off during use or you might have not have set this up thereby allowing the rod to protrude too far out of the servo body.

Try slackening off the locknut and adjusting the rod anti clockwise when viewed from the front of the engine bay. This will pre position the servo diaphragm and with it, the two pistons within the master cylinder.

You need to go say three to four turns then lock the nut back up again and go for a spin.

The firm feel of the pedal should move up towards you a bit at a time.

Don't over do it though otherwise you could get binding brakes.

Richard.

I was looking at that Richard, wasn't too sure if i should tamper with it too much in case i buggered up the servo, will give it a try tomorrow and report back.
