My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Out of interest Tel, how are you getting 8.8-1 compression on a stock chambered head & only 11cc pistons ? Is there are big piston crown to block deck height, to lower the compression ?

Phil. :)

No I screwed up!! its 9:0 to 1

11cc dish but the Megas have a lower crown height... gives 3 cc extra..

The +40 turbo pistons sold now also have the lower crown height and have 9cc dishes.

My Engine is 8.6CR. Circa 16psi, occasional 18psi. Running Megas with no failures.

I bought them because I was informed they are modelled on the AE turbo piston (which they certainly appear to be) and are easilly as robust, if not more so due to more modern materials / manufacturing.

I've also had mine machined to 'greater than' 15cc without issue.

I am not sure why some work, and some don't. All I do know is I'm running Zetec under-crown cooling jets, that will add stability to a highly-stressed piston than running without oil spray cooling.

Incidentally - I also believe Carl runs Cast Megas in the Don - with reliability given the HP output and RPM used - AGAIN - he is running under-crown cooling.

Maybe this is a key to the sparadic failure puzzle that hasn't yet been considered?

Enjoyed both answers!! And I felt the same 2 years ago when I decided on them.. wonder when Carl bought his ones??

I was wondering if nowadays we are running higher Comps asd more relying on Mj to retard and its not enough..

Well, I've been using DTA long before I was using megas...

I think the oil spray is more where you should be focussing - at least in regards to some working and others not working.
