if you were backing off the pressure and it didnt drop then this is normal, you need to release the pressure and test again

that is, unless you were using an inline gauge

I'm using a Gunsons Lo-Gauge.
I placed the fuel pipe into gauge.

I then loosend the locking nut on the regulator. then unscrewed the adjuster right out. then back in few turns.
Turned on ignition, so fuel pump is running.
But still at 7 to 8 psi. even took the ajuster screw out while putting the fuel pump on. but i have to turn the car over to get the fuel pump to kick in
(not start of course)
So would you say it's fcked ?

Called minispares, but can't promise the courier will post saturday.

Cheers

What i did notice just now.
When i turn the car over, it goes straight to 4psi. but as the fuel pump kicks in, it then goes to near 8 psi.
I have to turn the car over to get the fuel pump to kick in, as ive said before :)

That seem normal ?

Cheers.

Have you checked your return isn't blocked or the breather to the tank?

Minispares south or minispeed can't be a million miles from you?

No i havn't mate.
What's the best way to check the return isn't blocked.
Do i take the pipe off from the return on the regulator etc ?
Then what.

I have no wheels to drive anywhere :(
Cheers anyways.

I took the return pipe off the regulator.
is there meant to be fuel kind of sitting near the top of that pipe. or should the fuel not be there ? not sure how i check if it's blocked or not ?
the pressure is at 9 psi now for some reason.
just need to make sure before i buy new one.

Cheers

Been out and checked my spare....

I thought earlier they regulated on the incoming line (so you could just be pressured locked on your gauge when the pump kicks in) but they actually regulate by increasing the return as pressure rises so the obvious symptom of yours is a blocked or restricted return as Matty says - can you blow down the return line with it off the regulator ???

The other possibility is a split diaphragm (ie, it's fooked) - take the pressure sensing line (the one that picks up boost pressure from the plenum) off the regulator and run the pump - if fuel comes out this connector, the diaphragm is split.

Just run a bit of pipe from the regulator return to a petrol can or something. At least then you know the hose won't be restricting the flow. It should be completely clear of fuel.

You can also remove the fuel cap to check if the breather is blocked. *wink*

I'm near chelsea mate.
With a good blow, i can blow thou the return.
all i here is bubbling of the fuel ?
I also took that pipe off the regulator for the plenum, and petrol didn't come out. but petrol was inside my plenum the other day when i took the it off ?

Cheers

Did you do that test with the pump running, ie, plenum connection pipe removed from regulator, all other pipes connected and run pump ???

Yes mate with the pump running.
I still kept the fuel pipe on the gauge also.

Cheers

Well, if you run the pump with the inlet pipe from tank connected, the return pipe to the tank connected, the outlet connected to a gauge and the sensing line (plenum to regulator) disconnected, you should be able to vary pressure with the screw.

If you can blow down the return line, it's not blocked (the bubbling sound just means it's connected below tank level) but it may be restricted in flow. So try running the return pipe direct into something like a petrol can as matty suggests. BUT BE CAREFUL.....

Otherwise, the only other thing I can think of, is the valve inside the regulator (that returns the excess fuel) is not opening properly, but they are very basic.... Look in the "For Sale" section back a page or two where I photo'd one in bits so you can see how simple it is.

EDIT, daft question but are you sure you have the connections right to the regulator ????

has the car ever run with this set up? i see in another thread that you have a carb problem. no fuel getting to the needle. 7 psi should be more than enough

Maybe if you can't get less than 7psi, you should check your return line. Here is an example:
