So, I've always spoken as 'sy-bee' or 'sy'bees'

This morning, someone who probably knows more than me, pronounced it 'sib-ee' or 'sib-ees'

I've also heard it being said as 'Kib-ee' before....

So, who knows for sure what it is meant to be?

I've always pronounced it "sib-ee", have never heard it pronounced differently in fact.

As long as I am reading yours right anyway Dave, e.g. "sy-bie" being something like "s-eye-bee"

I've always used "sib-ee"

And it's "pronunciation".

I thought is was pronounced more like 'sib-e-ay' as there is an accent on the é.

Cibié.

I'm always wrong though!

Mine also have the accent over the é so are "sib-e-ay" or maybe "cee-bee-ay" but definately "ay" at the end.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

It's obvious, you just pronounce it as it's written. :) At least you guys have an idea of what é sounds like which is not the case for most people in the US.

Its C B A.

C is pronounced as a K in front of a, o and u and as an S in front of e, i, y. If you want an S sound with a,o,u you need a 'ç' (c cédille). However, I can't think of a word that has ço in it.

End of the French lesson.

That's the most useful thing I've learnt this month. I was trying to work it out all holiday.

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."
