today when i finished work after stripping an engine down, i got home to start stripping apart my turbo lump as i finnally got arround to getting it from my friends house.
Anyways i had the great idea of pulling the crank out with the pistons on to save time so i can take the block to be bored and cleand, forgetting you cant pull it all out from the bottem, so i now have cyl 1 and 4 with the rings poking out and cant get them back in at this point in time.
is it posible to push the rings back in and slide the pistons back out again?

Can you get a piston ring compressor in there? although you'd probably need 2 to do them simultaneously! Lol

You could remove the rings from the pistons and slide them down the con rod, and with the crank removed slide them over the big ends? *oh well*

EDIT: If you remove the crank first then the 2 pistons that are still in the bore, you should then be able to slide one piston at a time back into the bore! *wink*

one of my mates did the same thing to my block. took the crank out and other pistons and i ended up using a flat blade screwdriver and VERY CAREFULLY poping the ring back in took me a few hours to get it done but got there in the end with no damage to the ring piston or bore. (the screwdriver i sues was v blunt and not sharp on the corners) i dont know of a better way im aftraid but sure someone else must have done it to (i dont even sujest this is a good idea but it worked for me)

thats not so bad, its when your doing your first ever engine rebuild and put things such as thrust washers in the wrong way round. and dont prime the oil pump ect ect.

i always brake them off.

but as your over boreing this next comment will not have relervence.

if youve had the block honed and youve bedded the rings in, surely the rings would be pants on a rebuild anyway as you would probably damage the outer edge that has shaped to the hone marks when your compressing them.
