I feel that my Falken has more grip than my yokohama 008:s
(off the line and accelerating)

Aren´t they supposed to be really crappy? A bit confused, will try them on my next track outing and see how they corner

The tires are brand new 10":s 1.7 kg air in all 4

Have had falkens in the past and didn´t experience a lot of grip from them then…have they changed them? compound/pattern

I believe they have recently changed the design and compound.

If they are better it can only be a bonus for people on a tight budget.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Had some Falkens many years(15?) back and they were nothing compared to a 008, then the 032r arrived and that has wat better that the 008.

Maybe if they have change the properties of the Falken it is now a better tyre.

i am running falkens ,
they are about 2 years old though ,

i ran a 13.95 @104 0n them at avon ,and they were shrieking like a goodun , 2.4s 60 ft, max of .6 g ...

not that good really but seems to be about average ,

at santa pod they were hopeless ,but i think a few people thought the grip there was poor , i could almost run right up to 70 odd wheel spinning .

I have always said the A008's were pants anyway *oh well*

But

There is no comparisson thith the A008 with the Falkens, unless cost is a factor and you are willing to comprimise *oh well*

They are a little slippy in the wet, nothing dramatic, so just take it a little easier *wink*

Yes, a great tyre. The prefered tyre in the MG Metro Cup (have to run road legal tyres from MSA List 1B)

They perform very well, like a bit of heat in them to work properly.

I had a set of 539's as wet but prefered the 048R's even in the wet, put it this way, I have won a wet race on them.

539's compared to 048R's in medium were worth 5 seconds a lap at Donnington, I qualified on the 539's but raced on the 48's.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

i wouldn’t have thought so.. 539's are a road tyre A048 are a 'motorsport' tyre (but still road legal)

A048 Should give better grip and better lap times etc.

Really? My Falkens make we want to drive at 10mph in the wet with the grip they give me.

I have Falkens on four of our Minis. Sturgeo has 175/13 Yokos on his.

No problems with the Falkens whereas Sturgeo's car is dreadful with tram-lining. This is probably a size and setup issue though.

I fitted Falkens on my Focus a couple of years ago after always using Continentals. After a while I started to suffer chronic understeer in the wet.

I took this up with my mate at the garage and he told me that Falken had signficantly improved the design and were now a lot better. But of course he would say that so i was sceptical.

The front Falkens wore out a lot quicker than the Contis used too but they were a lot cheaper. I also think that the cars suspension is starting to move more at 110,000 miles so that would also account for the high tyre wear.

When it came to change the fronts again I fitted the new Falkens as they were a lot cheaper and I was thinking of trading the car in at the time.

The original Falkens were model ZIEX ZE512 which I still have on the rear.

The new ones are ZIEX ZE912 and are much better. Just driven through the fens in a hurry in the pouring rain to get home for a delivery - just as good as it ever was with the Contis.

Not sure of the relevance of this to Minis, but it would appear that Falken are at least catching up with the competition.

When it came to fitting tyres to my new 10" rims, I could not justify the extra expense of the Yokos.

Yeah i love throwing it into the corners, the slide from the ofset so you can judge it really well.

Infact i prefer driving the S in the wet!
