R5 I thought was a 0.48 AR and a 50 trim... but TD thinks "R5GT T2: 50 trim, 0.35 A/R turbine "

The metty T3 is def a 40 trim with a 0.25 AR but this houseing is unavaible new so most rebuilds include a 0.36 AR which makes it the same turbo as a Escort RS Turbo.

I don't know the trim of my T3 but I looked it and I have seen the A/R ratio (written on the housing) which is 0.42.

Do you think they sold me a wrong turbo?

I cannot get the real spec of the metro turbo's one.

R5: compr.:trim50, AR 0,48; turbine: trim56, A/R 0,35

Metty: compr.: trim40, A/R 0,42; turbine: don't know anymore, but too big. (A/R is written in the housing)

Alex, the shiny end of the turbo is the compressor - the trim of this on a R5Gt is 0.48, but pretty irrelevant as they are not critical on garrett turbochargers.
The rusty / dirty end of the turbo is the turbine, which is a 0.35 on the T2.

Why the "LOL"? The standard metros(of with there have been many) i have broken for spares have had .25 cast into the exhaust tubine housing. Did'nt make me laugh though??

Just comfirming a valid question.

Was laughing at TD explaination about the two ends of the turbo. You have been 2 milliseconds faster in typing your answer than me with typing my "LOL"

I thought it was funny!!!

No idea on the 0.25 Trim, but as per the compressor, it's pretty irrelevant, the A/R will give the better indication of the suitability for power/drive charactersictics / compromises.

As an afterthought - No other Turbo from garrett lists the 0.25 turbine on the T3 range to my knowledge... Certainly, you can't buy them new anymore...

Thanks a lot everybody.

What do you think of a T2 fitted on the metro standard exhaust manifold?

Mirage manifold is a bit expensive for me.

T3 metro A/R = 0.26. Ford escort MK2 A/R = 0.36.
T2 R5 A/R = 0.35.
Cossy sapphire = 0.48

If the A/R for the metro is any bigger the lag would be out of order. The car would be undrivable. The 0.26 A/R is no longer available, We use a secret combo with a special trim shaft in our turbo units.

Aonbar - Not wanting to get into a dispute here, but i doubt very much it would be undrivable... Most of this 'undrivable' crap comes from people running 'clockwork' advance... You stick decent ignition on your car (read dizzyless) and most of the battle is won...
