My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Just got my car Mot'd no problems except the emissions. Co2 is fine but hydrocarbons are way over.
The guy said i can come down sunday morning and have a go on his spare gas analyiser to try and get it through.
The engine runs very cool so i'm gonna try and get it really hot before i run it up on the machine by blanking part of the rad off, i'm also gonna try disconnecting the intercooler & mess with the timing + mixture. But does anybody have any special tricks worth trying ?
Don't say get it on a rolling road co's i don't have time, i've got a photoshoot for Minimagazine on sept 1st, & i really don't want to miss that................help !

Cheers
Phil. *smiley*

on my cosworth i had problems every year(approx 13 times the acceptable limit).... i had to make the following adjustments which are often overlooked for mot purposes and then reset them afterwards *happy* ....open spark plug gaps up to a big gap to get a better spark, make sure dizzy cap and rotor arm are new, disconnect the engine breather system and remove air filter...even then i had to adjust the ecu while the test was carried out,and once passed reset it to the original position *happy* the biggest difference made to hydrocarbons though was by having new plugs set at a big gap and having new rotor arm and cap....give it a try

Look for some tax exempt plates! - They check by eye to see if the car is blue smoking.

It will be cheaper in the long run, instead of fafing aroung every year.

Plus you you can't beat the feeling of walking in the post office and being handed the tax disc for free!!!!

My hydrocarbons were way over at tick over but the MOT tester said they allow it to be checked at around 2000rpm?????? Dont know if he was just being genorous with me or if thats what they can do but they came right down well within the limit!!

surely there is a more friendly mot place near you ?
I know of a few near me who 'forget' to check certain bits if asked nicely.

Too many projects!

T3... thats the law, or rather the limit of most emmision readers.

Rev it up to 1995rpm and test again, it should pass when really hot!

That's the main problem i think. The engine doesn't get hot, it runs realy cool since i did the mods to the cooling system.
I'm taking it to try again in the morning, i'm going to blank the radiator with a bit of card to get it nice and hot.

Cheers guys.

Phil last time my car was mot'd i had to weaken off the mixture and retard the timing to pass the emissions, it was highest on CO approx twice the limit, easier for me to alter than you i know! as suggested you could always take it somewhere else?? I know i don't normally recommend 'that' place near us, but at least they understand minis shortcomings and know how to get them through the MOT emissions..
