how does everyone lift their engines?

i lifted the old engine out using the two rocker cover studs, but that engine was knackered.

so will it cause any damage if i use this method to put the new engine in?

or any other ideas will be great!

Not very sunny swanage

ive changed about six or sevn engines, always using the brackets that bolt to the rocker cover studs. they were supplied as standard on A35's so afaik they are perfectly ok to use, never had any problems....

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

i used a proper engine bracket which goes on one of the studs, and i've used one method where you bolt it to the manifold stud and a head stud on the opposite side diagonally this works really well just remember to take off all the ancillaries!

i just use a bit of rope looped round the water pump and round the little brackety bit for the top engine steady. don't even use a proper crane though, just one of them things you get in hospital for lifting fat dudes out of the bath an stuff.

i normally use the bar from my weightlifting bench, loop rope round that and round the engine. Then have me crouching one end and a pal on the other end with the bar resting on our shoulders, then stand up. Probs not too good for the old back if you do it too often tho.

I take the roker cover off, put my little finger around the rocker shaft and simply lift it in...

Or, more seriously - the rocker studs are fine!!!

I use a hoist , with two seat belts through the hook
One around the water pump ( uhum )
the other around the end casing

works a treat

I pay some dude to do it for me - don't even get my pinky dirty (TD)!

Seriously, I have done engine swaps with a pile of bricks and a scissor jack. Any way of separating the two works fine. Just don't put the full weight of the engine/box on something small under the gearbox - they have been known to crack. Definitely don't drop the engine the last 6" to the ground.

Good luck!
