Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I'm going to look at an MG midget tomorrow night. its been raced in the MGOC for about 4 years and looks like a smart car.

Only downside is it has all its chassis plates but no V5. The bloke is genuine enough, he's had it 4 years and built the car and its well known.

How do i go about registering it?

The plan is if its what he says it is, i'll put a deposit down, take the chassis number away with me, register it then pick it up. Would just make me feel a bit better rather than doing it afterwards.

I've got age related plates on vintage tractors before which was easy enough.

Is there any way to search via chassis number to get the number plate its supposed to have?

thanks in advance *smiley*

I think (and I may be wrong) but you can a form from your post office and apply/register that way? not 100% tho.

Different situation but similar solution maybe.

Went to look at the car, nice car, well built etc and in good condition.

however, there is no chassis plate on the car...

The bloke is a scrutineer for the MGOC, has been doing it for years so i have no doubt the car is genuine enough.

Its just i want this to be road registered. He's going to see if he can find "the" chassis plate and V5 for the car but i dont know if he will.

Any options?

I've asked him to look for the body number plate on the B pillar but if thats not there i'm kind of stuck.

its the ideal car for me, just not without a number plate!!! Grr! plus its only 30miles away, unlike some of the cars i've been looking at!

the vin will be stamped into the shell somewhere, it may even have a hidden VIN ? a photo of the glass would help me age it for you (the triplex bit has hidden codes) its ideal to do it on the rar window as this is the least likely to have been changed . if you have some items on the car ie glass which would indicate its ID you could get away with it, but DVLA will SABTVRO the number which is what happened to mine.

alternate if the id of the car cannot be established, or its age i am affraid its "Q" ville for you, and again you may get hit with SABTVRO or you can get to make up your own vin *wink*

Is there a body number on the passenger door pillar? BMH can trace the chassis number from the body number.

This is purely theoretical, but if a person had an MG that was scrap but had a V5 he could possibly assume the identity of the scrap one on to another-I believe that it may have been done before(Not sure how I said that with my tongue so far in to my cheek)
