Warwick.

Hi.

after coming to rebuild my gearbox it was discovered that instead of a roller bearing being fitted to the lay gear a copper bush was fitted, this then sciezed on the layshaft.

anyway, turns out JKD have done the thing of fitting a non standard size bearing in order for them to get more money on bits etc.
So obviously as JKD have changed hands or something along those lines no one seems to know where to get said bearings. Its minispeed who now own JKD apparently and when Southam mini and metro centre phoned them up to seek a bearing Rod was told it was a bearing from a Triumph Spitfire, so he seeked one from a sellers only fo find out the bearing wont actualy fit.

Just wondering where i stand about trying to find a bearing to fit, Rod's rang around pretty much every engine builders MED rebuilt one 2 years ago and had to make an order from japan for the bearings.
Ether order from jap' or get a bearing made specialy.

anyone any other smart ideas? looks like im going to miss combe in anycase

Thanks David.

I think the knowledge base at JKD has gone with the wind, as i phoned up about getting the Maxi CV joints machined to fit Mini drive flanges. I was told that there is no modification and they were adament that they will fit a standard Mini dive flange, even after I argued that they dont.

It would appear that the large CV joint conversion is lost in history.

Anyone know how and where I can get this done? You can still buy the shafts.

That was then Carl, this is now *wink*

As far as I can see the splines and the shaft are too big for both the flange and the bearings. they are also longer.

Its more for the rally boys as the shafts fail alot of the time due to the shock loadings. Ive seen Competition JKD shafts twisted beyond use.

I recall it's 1500 maxi CV's that will fit without mods - these are larger, but that means even less room for the CV boot...

To quote from an old JKD 2005 catalogue with is probibly defunct

THE SHAFTS REQUIRE HARDY SPICER INNER & MAXI OUTER CV
JOINT. THESE REQUIRE MACHINING, PLEASE CALL FOR DETAILS.

http://www.jackknight.co.uk/pricelist/minipricelistfull.pdf

http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/cv_joints_detail.cfm

Only one outer CV listed for the Maxi 1500

http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/cv_joints_detail.cfm

Again Only one outer CV listed for the Allegro 1500

So which CV joint is larger and fits the Mini drive flanges? I will assume it is the Allegro 1500 as that is a different part to the Mini CV and the Maxi CV. So whats with everyone including JKD mentioning Maxi CVs??????

I am really confused

dont go throwing your money away on shit like this

take the bearing out, get the number off it, or measure it up, and i can pretty much guarantee you will be able to get it ordered from a bearing supplier.

jkd charged £70 odd each for a new timken idler bearing, i just get the number off the side of it, and you can get them for £23 on the net. its a piss take.

I think 1380turbo has a JK box, not sure if he built it. Maybe worth asking.
