An odd 998???

Hi guys, have just done an engine swap for a mate, 998 to 1275..........now hes a bit special when it comes to cars in general I think! He supplied the 1275 not knowing what it was, on inspection proved to be an MG metro lump with a crunchy gearbox.

Now the 998 I took out has a 12G295 head, an EN16T crank (12A1451) in an A+ block, the camshaft has a single 1/4inch raised ring on it, cant see any other markings at all.

Is this the norm for BL?? Pre A+ crank in an A+ block??? I guess the head could have been added at any time (even though it looks like its seen some work too, how will I know if its unleaded??)

Has it crossed your mind that someone could have rebuilt it once?

Ulneaded, take the exhaust valves out for a positive ID.

Both my A Plus 998s have that crank. I believe that the standard 998 cam has the single ring you describe.

What you have is standard 998 with a 12G295 head.

You need to check if the head has exhaust valve seat inserts fitted.

Did have a feeling it would be standard and yes guessed it had been rebuilt at sometime vergard LOL
