I was planning a trip to Norway yesterday and found this ferry:

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

If you click around a little on that page Paul, you will find that the route does not exist anymore.

Here are the current route maps from the two companies that previously owned the ferry.

Thanks Andre,

I want to get up into the Artic Circle.

I've concluded that even if I could get a ferry to Bergen from Newcastle, It's too far to drive in the Motorhome. It would take about 4/5 days to get there.

Even worse if I have to go across to Denmark then catch another ferry up the coast.

The only option would be to fly.

or you could take the ferry in Norway that goes from Bergen to Kirkenes. It goes by the major cities along the coast, and into the nicest fjords. Be prepared though, it's expensive. Its named hurtigruta.

Its possible do buy tickets for only parts of the trip though.

My wife has just said that we can take a couple of months off if that's what it takes !!!!

I would miss the dog if we were away that long.

Apologies for thread-jacking Jordan.

Thanks Vegard, I'll take you up on that.

Whats the best time of year to go?

I want to see the Northern Lights and Whales at sea.

ha ha, you are right Vegard*tongue*

Indeed Paul, get in touch with us if you are cmoming over. Both myself and Vegard live in Trondheim, mid Norway.

If you want to see the northern lights, its best during the winter! I was placed in Kirkenes for a full year, and could see them almost every night there during the winter. Its impossible during the summer as its light round the clock then.

Whales you can see all year around I think:

I would recomend you not to travel in January/February as its very cold up north then. Around -15 to -25 is usual far north at that time, and I experienced -46 once :) Its already snowing up north, to be prepared for snow if you are going to see the northern light. (the further north you go the largesr is the chance of seeing one)

However, I'd say June/july for the rest of trip. No Northern lights, but we've got midnight sun then. Does that count?

Ih, and please take the 1100 engine with you *tongue*
