They have similar setups in locomotive engines, but with a triad style arrangement with pistons firing against each other and head as such, makes a lot of power too. |

i made a lego engine years ago that ran on compressed air using that idea, worked a treat a couple thousand rpm loads of torque had years of fun powering allsorts of wierd cars and tanks i built, however as a fuel powered engine, imo a crap idea.... Yes i moved to the darkside |

it now 11 oclock and iv sjtu spent the evening reading up on large diesel engines as a result of this thread turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Napier Deltic engines are indeed 2 stroke, with use of turbos to force induction. The deltic design works on 4 stroke as well, you just get half the power in the same capacity. |
