Please bear with me as I am a complete numpty with electronics.I can buy a complete set up for £280 and am quite happy with the mechanical side of things, but do I need a laptop and a degree in cleverness to set it up?.Does the kit come with a default setting so that I can run the engine to get it to someone who can tweak it for me ?.All suggestions, including rude and amusing ones gratefully accepted.

you need a pc with a serial port or get a usb to serial convertor.

a laptop is easier so you can sit in the car with it.

i think with a bit of reading on autosportlabs you can get the gist of what you need to do without needing to get a degree

Sorry, but you asked for this ....

Get a laptop, learn how it all works and then set the basics up yourself.

Seriously, I wouldn't spend that much without having given myself a basic understanding of what it does / how it works.

Even if you don't want to do the final (ie, rolling road type) settings, you really need to learn how the programming interface works before handing it to someone else to setup for you.

There's an old phrase, "You're never too old to learn...."

There are plently of forums for Megajolt (Megasquirt in my case) to read up on.

Electronics isn't difficult..... it's like real engineering except the bits that break are smaller :)

Its actually really easy, I was a complete novice and it wasn't difficult.
If you want me to run through the software side of things thats no problem mate, your only up the road from me. Im sure you'll pick it up quite quickly anyway. I may have a couple of maps on my old laptop too, to get you started.

GO FOR IT...you'll never look back! *wink*
