Went to the Rally day at Combe a couple of weeks back. During one of the track sessions we spotted a white mini chasing (and keeping up with) a 6r4. Vtec or vauxhall I thought. I was really surprised when we saw it in the paddock with the bonnet off

The car was stripped out and looked very lightweight and the driver obviously knew what he was doing as the speed the car carried round the track was awesome. I couldn't hear any s/c gear whine which is why I thought it wasn't an a-series.

Never caught up with the owner, but I'd really like to know more about the fuelling setup. It's looks like Amals, but they look different to other Amal setups I've seen.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Neil

edit cos I forgot how to post pictures

Am i missing something here? All i'm looking at is an 8port on Amals???

They do look like later Amals though - I've seen some held on with rubber tubes on some (at a guess) mid 70's racing bikes...

Yeh, just looks as though they are using different Amals to the ones that Minispares provide.
Nice and clean as well.

Yes Amals or Mikunis, Great carbs from bikes, My crosser has a single Amal. So simple as the piston is directly connected to the throttle cable, which acts like the butterfly in our SU's. Then the needle is connected to the piston, thus us upping the fuel delivery the more the loud pedal is applied..For those of you that don't know!

Forgotten more than most ever know

Ok, a bit guesswork here but looks like Amal Concentric Mk2 carbs.

Factory 8-porters and Minispares set had the older Concentric Mk1 versions.

The minispares ones are apparently restrict power on anything over 1275cc.

Do you know if the later ones do the same?

I had one of them carbs on my old 'ossa' 250cc trials bike!
It was made in the mid seventies.
