Okay, I'm feed up of waiting for Roger to get his arse in gear, been waiting over a year now and fit my cage so I've decided on a cunning plan:

Buy TIG
Learn to TIG
Fit cage myself

As it's been 15 years since I last touched a TIG and can remember FA about it can anyone recommend any good how to books or DVDs?

Cheers

Rob

That idea crossed my mind, but Jason & the car are some 200 miles apart.

Rob,

I think that you should Mig the cage, but the best web based resource for TIG is here:

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

I bought a book off ebay, "Performance Welding".

Its rubbish TBH, gives no info as to angle you hold the torch etc, set up. Useless.

I've taught myself, TBH I think you won't go far wrong, esp on thickwalled mild steel, by having a practise and teaching yourself.

I bought the Haynes Welding manual. Not very good either - too generalised and too americanised.

There is no substitute for getting stuck in and learning by your mistakes.

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."
