Another Boot Floor Question

Hi,

I was planning on getting a carbon boot floor.
However since reading that they weigh about the same as the original panel and shipping costs would be quite high I am thinking about making one similar in design out of 1mm steel sheet.
That way I have a flat surface to mount a fuel cell and it is enclosed.

Question is.. How deep are the carbon floors? Is the front of it flush with the bottom of the rear seat panel?
I've looked at the photos but just want to make sure.

why not cut out most of the floor but leave a lip all round, then pop rivet a sheet of ally over the hole? but does this affect the strength of the car?

I have a full weld in cage so not worried about the strength. Wanted to have a smoother underside and lower c.g. of the fuel tank.

1mm sheet steel will be heavy - or would it? what gauge is 1mm guys?

18 gauge is 1.2mm
20 gauge is 0.9mm
