If you dont fit the scuttle closing panel, water will get into the engine bay, as well as starting the A post rotting, which is not a fun job.

as sprocket points out, if you leave the closer panel off, this opens up the door post at high level and will rot out far quicker. |

I knocked some up when cutting my front end off and sealed up the corners with some metal type putty and lots of spray paint done the job no rust. |
