My engine has developed a strange knock that I cant quite pinpoint. Any suggestions? Under hard acceleration I get a quite heavy knock ( almost like a big end kind of rattle) It doesnt do it at very low rpm or when labouring only when it is really picking up and starting to work. Now for the strange bit. If I keep the foot planted after a bit it clears! My oil pressure is good, my plugs look good. I dont have any excesive breathing through my engine breathers, Have checked my rockers and shaft etc and all seems fine. Any suggestions as to what to investigate next?

I was just thinking petrol. As that appears to be the only thing I have changed recently! I had kind of ruled out detonation as the timing etc had been unchanged, and nothing appears worn. Would fuel really give me that big a change? I always thought it might change from nothing to light pinking I never thought it would go from nothing to knocking. What fuel does everyone use/ recommend? and what one are prone to going off |

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

How quick do some of these petrols go off? Or is that a bit of an old wives tale? My car is a bit of a trackday / weekend warrior so sometimes sits fora couple of weeks without turning a wheel. I am beggining to think thats whats happening here. I am itching to get it out of the garage and downt to my nearest shell to find out |

That could explain why the Open is a bit off, I can't remember the last time I filled it up, not sure if it was this year even. Isambard Kingdom Brunel said:
