What are they like as a daily, who uses one most of the time, is there any problems with bore number 1 getting hot with a dry deck and whats the mpg like??

I am hoping mine will be a daily driver of 100 miles a day. all on straight roads at 70ish mph |

bin driving mine every day for the last 5000 miles no problem all at speed some a little enthusiastic returning 32mpg and hasnt being set up on rollers yet coming apart for body work over winter will probably strip enging just to check it over, tis a 1380 16v ith lt cams. love that straight cut scream!!!

I'd say these engines make a great all round road motor. Mine is 1380 16v with RS cams. If it's set up properly with decent cold start maps it will be really user friendly giving 5 port race engine power without the fuss. If you stick to the BMW cams you get a flat torque curve from 3k-7k and max power at 7k.

My only reservation as an everyday road engine would be the unkown long term relaibility. You've got to get all the oil drains and breathers right and try to keep the oil in the thing on the side of the engine that wasn't designed that way originally. I guess you've also got the risk of debris getting under the cam belt with it all being open. Just my 10p. Nick. Own the day

althoug it seems most people are machining the piston cutouts deep enough for the valves to miss. On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:
