Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

cant imagine them being any worse than a normal mini.

they should be more economical being injection etc and depending on spec no problems with heat.

It all depends on how much power you want from it though! a lot of power wears things out more quickly.

i.e. a 130bhp K headed 1293 compared to maybe 90bhp from a 5 port (less rev's etc as well) means things will wear out more.

I'd say these engines make a great all round road motor. Mine is 1380 16v with RS cams. If it's set up properly with decent cold start maps it will be really user friendly giving 5 port race engine power without the fuss. If you stick to the BMW cams you get a flat torque curve from 3k-7k and max power at 7k.

Don't know what fuel consumption I get, but it should be better than a carb if set up right.

Cooling has never been a problem on mine, but it's not dry decked.

My only reservation as an everyday road engine would be the unkown long term relaibility. You've got to get all the oil drains and breathers right and try to keep the oil in the thing on the side of the engine that wasn't designed that way originally. I guess you've also got the risk of debris getting under the cam belt with it all being open.

Just my 10p.

Nick.

Bingo! And how many modern cars designed with sealed cam covers have you seen where the belt has snapped and taken the head and some times more with it! Its a loaded gun held against your wallet waiting to go off. Its just a matter of time and who!

althoug it seems most people are machining the piston cutouts deep enough for the valves to miss.

At least without a cover it is easy to see how worn the belt is! Lol

In all honesty your not going to do 60-80K on these engines without replacing the belt like you would on a modern engine. Chances are you'd take it apart well before then anyway to try and get more power out of it! *hehe!*
