OK, so there are different kinds - STANDARD, not aftermarket ones....

Pressed on the left, forged in the middle and sintered on the right.

I've read somewhere that the pressed steel ones actually have a better ratio than the sintered ones.... ??? right or wrong ???

But what about the forged ones ??? Good, bad, or just ancient history ???

pressed ones can be 1.3 ratio or the forged one are one of the two

the first ones look like there from an old small block, didnt they used the middle on cooper engines and the end ones are the newer ones you see everywhere?

Pressed steel-functional but not beautiful. Forged -I have a set that I fitted with offset bushes and spent hours lightening and polishing them -look beautiful but I suspect no more functional. Sintered - look very heavy to me,so I have never used them.

1.28:1 seems to spring to mind for the pressed and maybe around 1.23/5 for the others but i am very vague on that one!

A bit later but the same question.

@Rod S: what did you use?

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

I haven't actually decided yet.... it's built with the pressed steel ones at the moment just to run it in but I may use the forged ones eventually.

I'm fairly well decided not to use the sintered ones, but need to measure the actual ratio of the other two.

the pressed steel ones are the best ratio wise. There are also two types of those, one with a wide valve pad, and one with a narrower one. The wide one does have more lift IIRC (BUT is slightly heavier), both of them are better than the S forged ones though as they are only 1.23:1. The pressed steel ones are 1.28:1. The A+ "crap" is too new for me so I do not know *tongue*

Anyway the pressed steel ones are excelent, I have just run a small bead of mig weld on top of them to avoid them splitting, then I have used and abused them up to around 9300 rpm:)

Also if you build up a set of rockers, avoid the aluminium posts at all costs.

I'm going for the pressed steel ones.
First i get them cleaned and welded.
Welding the rockers seems to be a simple mod to improve the lifetime of the rockers. *hehe!*

I like the pressed ones best, i think thw pad that touches on the valve is made of the best material out of the 3.
