Ok lads my self and Gary came up agents another small problem, with this long stroke 1098 we fitted ARP bolts to the big ends, and now it seem that the bolt on number 2 con rod are fouling the gearbox on the pinion bearing housing beam, where Carls gearbox broke last time. I am a little weary of grinding material away at this point as this is an inherent weakness of the mini box taught ??

you can see is this attached pic the mark made by the head of the bolt when we precussed it off the casting with the cranks throw.

leeds/wakefield.

ive only had problems in the rear box, the first was a hairline crack,
the second you all saw, was i suspect the result of a tooth breaking off the pinnion and jamming up, ide file clearence and forget about it,

I've had clearance problems with 1098 cranks before, in my case it was a central oil pick up pipe that fouled. In any case I'd also check this whilst its in bits still.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Were there ever any 1100 A+ engines?

Perhaps A+ engines with the A series box right at the very cross over point circa 1978

Is the center web on the A+ box a little beefier than the A box and why clearance is so dam close

Just theory of course

I think you are spot on Sprocket I was just back down to the work shop and the head of the ARP bolt is sum 1.2mm deeper than the STD bolt so what with this extra length the extra meat on the gearbox web fouling accures how bloody close must the bolts have run in the STD 1098s ???
