yeah, it's a totally different kind of feeling. And it varies so much depending on what the build is like.

Where are you based? I'm sure someone would take you out.

Im yet to find a car that compares to a turbo mini for the scare factor. Sure there are plenty of cars that are quicker but they are far to controlled compared to a mini which adds a whole different element! lol

The problem with real machinery is that it is made to be quick, so you can put your foot down from 0-180 and it wont even kick out on you

However, a;; you boys are taliking about turbo minis with over 180chp.

What's it like to drive a standard 100bhp one?

We my 998 turbo I reckon has the same bhp as a standard metro turbo and gets to 60 in a little over 8 seconds. So it feels like an average hot hatch.

The thing is you gain all the speed early when weight is the advantage, as soon as the wind resistance builds progres is slowed.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

It's the zig-zagging as the boost comes in that makes it entertaining...

First time I drove mine I remember thinking that this car will be the instument of my death it scared me that much. you wont believe that a mini could accelerate that fast. And thats standard!

I went in ric's mini that was largely std at the time, possibly with an intercooler and that thing was an absolute hoot!!!

That felt awesome too, i was quite suprised how good it did feel, you can probably drive it with the feeling that your going quicker on the roads too as it doesnt keep requiring you to back off

I can't wait until i get mine on the road. Sad thing is that it will be the fastest car I have ever owned. Quickest thing I ever had is a diesel Passat.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Dont want to be negative but unless your turbo mini is 180+ bhp its never going to scare the hell out of you.

Ye dont get me wrong it will be quick but dont think youl be racing evo's and ferrari's .

Rick

ps Il be honest id like to have a go in a 200+ one to see what the difference is

Cossierick, If you no what fast car fell like then yes i agree with you, BUT, take for instance, if you get a chav that come from his 50 bhp corsa and NEVER been in any thing else, he will get mini a mini turbo and wet him self at just 150 brake :) It's all what people have been in and can compere to.

I do think matty is spot on. I've been in loads of car now that would and do make my car on full chat look really quite silly and very slow! However these cars normaly go in a straight line, with the mini going from lane to lane in a car that SHOULDN'T do that sort of thing, it scares people much more than faster cars. So really hard to compere it.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

iv driven quite a few jap cars with over 600hp fast yeh, but if teh traction is there they are very stable, sit at 150 and it feels like 50mph. take a passenger in one and you mite get a giggle or a "fuck me this is rapid" as you get lifted out your seat, hands reaching for the ceiling.. take people out in the mini and they either end up in histerics or white as a ghost. Never been in a car as skary as my own, and i consider my mini to be quite stable :)

evo's are slow.

LOL yes that can be quite fun, then theres driving it on any kind of damp surface.. even more fun.. I find I have to back the throttle off as the boost comes in to keep the wheels from spinning, its quite an art.

My BINI is a lot faster but doesn't nearly replicate the shear danger of the Mini. If I want a thrill ride you can guess which one I get out!!

I dont agree on the "takes 180 bhp to be scary" thing, Its all relative, Hell, Before the turbo I scared the shit out of a few with the 998 (38 bhp) City engine just by slinging ito into corners hard, Americans who drive pickup truckas and 4x4's are not used to that!!
