Hello you lot :(
well lots of questions really ; I think I am gunna have to have the engine out again anyways so mebe its time for the CAM and Head ..... mark mark mark mark ....

Drove the mini today ; lots os observations and I wanna ask you guys some questions

1) Its been on the RRoad as you all know by know ; but the quality of the work is very questionabale ... the car goes pretty well; and I still get torque steer at anything over say 7 PSI ( irun 10 btw)

2) My manifold gasket is leaking ; I sprayed it with WD40 at idle and the tickover changes ; so I guess it is drawing in air from the manifold.

3) I notice that boost comes up pretty slowly is this just LAG or could I have a leak in the intercooler ??

4) I get loads and loads of grey smoke from under the carb it looks like from the heatshield so I guess its petrol ... so a carb rebuild ????

5) When it comes on boost it judders and splutters a bit then it goes but as i have said this is always abouve say 7 PSI unless I put the choke on then its good and does not splutter
In my opinion this can be fuel pressure and more likely leaning out but why ??

BTW i have bloked the carb balance pipe at both ends so it can be that

Please my fellow chappies .... I am well pissed off at the moment and I am sure a lot of ya have been here before

Other than that all is good , starts on the button , no smoke at start up at all no smoke in fact at anytime so I am pretty sure my turbo is good;

ive found out im goona be a dad 6 weeks ago and havent had a shag for 5 weeks....my right arm is feeling the strain

id suggest that you put right all the little things like the leaky manifold gasket and carb rebuild, then get to a good rolling road to set it up. perhaps your problems are due to the carb and gasket. check there not cracked or warped.
if something isnt right fix it then move on to the next thing thats what i do anyway.
get a carb rebuild kit off iain there dead easy to do just keep every thing in order.
what do you mean by saying the boost is slow mine kicks in at about3k to 4k(ish) and then it goes oh and i have a lot of lag to

theres no point in putting a new head and camshaft in then the same faulty parts back on *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

leaky gasket may be causing te grey smoke, and the sluggishness / hesitation on boost.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

b12 mine ran crap, lots of smoke from the carb and generally as pants when the inlet gasket was leaking.

didnt get a chance to do it this weekend for one reason or another
