Hello folks,

I’m having a slight problem choosing two gears.
The purpose I have for them is to reverse rotation of a chain.

I need them to be able to spin at near on 7500 rpm and take 90 lb/f of torque.

If you guys have any suggestions when it would be a great help

Thanks

Sam.

Oh and it must maintain a 1-1 ratio from input to output.

To take drive from an r1 engine and gear box and change the direction so it can be used with a modified mini differential for front wheel drive.

Probably a bit late now, but you could run the chain round the second sprocket in an 'S' configuration (same as a mountain bike rear mech. You'd also need a couple of idlers, one of which doubling up as some form of tensioner? *oh well*

how are you positioning the engine? back to front?

is this entirely necessary?

pm R1 manx on this forum, or even better visit his site

The engine will have the exhaust at the back and the carbs at the front.

Looking at it from the drivers side the output is pointing towards you, this spins counter clockwise. The wrong way to spin the differential.

i need the exhaust to be at the back because I can modify the bulkhead to fit a turbo but i don’t want to have to cut the front.

It is a clubby front mind but I need to put a radiator and inter cooler there.

turbo r1 eh?

personally i hate the complexity of the backward engine install, far too much stuff to go wrong, but if needs must...

have you thought about clutch issues with an turbo'd r1 engine?

there are quite a few r1 engined cars on the island, strikers, z cars, home brew conversions and the likes, the biggest issue they seem to have is the clutch capacity, ive not looked into it recently, but this time last year there was very little that could be done to help...

fingers crossed theres a solution now

good luck

How come no one goes for a busa engine? They have far more grunt, and have been turbo'd a fair bit in the past?

theres a hyabusa zcar over her, but im guessing its because r1's are just so plentiful, small and cheap?

r1 parts and engines as said above are alot cheeper and easyer to come by, alot of people in the states and japan have done r1 turbo's. the hyabusa can some with a turbo from the factory so i have been told as an optional extra

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Could this thread have had a subject and first post to make it sound any more complicated?

The hayabusa is a lot bigger then the r1 engine.

I am starting to think about mounting it the conventional way around and just routing the exhaust around the side.

Would mean only one tensioner and one chain to go wrong.

I’m just concerned about a turbo in such proximity to the front.

i guess id have to ask evolution about that.

Yes ill have around 5 inches for room at the front.

However what I’m worried about is something so hot in such close proximity to what is effectively plastic with a bit of Kevlar in it.

the promotive kit on a clubby gives loads of room, you can get a t25 in there and a front mount rad and intercoooler with room to spare!

Im not, I’m doing the lot myself.

An engineering exercise.

Not because it will be cheaper, the amount of man hours into development ect negate that.

I Started a thread asking what to do for my next projecct and I had decided to do a front install of a Turbo charged Daytona 600 unit. Hope we can throw ideas back and forth and get two of these working
